Dark Traces; experiments in encasing fabric with another tactile layer
Experiments with dunking materials; Paverpol (a transparent fabric stiffener), Plasti dip (very expensive for the amount, pretty toxic) and in the end, combining liquid latex and black Indian ink.
There was a fair amount of experimenting with different kinds of ink due to wanting to get the densest black. In the end Brian Clegg waterproof drawing ink came up trumps.
The towels (for Dark Traces I, courtesy of Poundland) bound up transportation with rubber cord. Installed initially in the studio that inspired the work.
