Brixton’s Nuclear Dawn mural celebrates 30th anniversary
This lunchtime the London Mural Preservation Society put on a birthday party – complete with ‘nuclear’ crackers and fairy cakes! – for the mural know locally as ‘the one with the skeleton in’

After a visit to view the mural (and to sing it Happy Birthday!) a ‘blue plaque’ was unveiled by the mural’s artists – Brian Barnes & Dale McCrea – and a slideshow of the mural’s history was shown upstairs at the nearby Dogstar. A screening of an animated film, made by Ruth’s sister Hannah, that features the mural was also shown.

The London Mural Preservation Society (@L_MPS) aims to record people’s memories of the murals’ creation and to stimulate public interest in this kind of public art (there have also been guided mural viewing walks in both North & South London)
