A weekend on the Kent coast; Folkstone festival and amazing B&B in Hythe
You might have gathered that weekends out of town are popular around here.. :) And with the super hot weather, nowhere is better than by (or in!) the sea…
We took the train down to Folkestone to visit friends, and saw Raft and Trawler races as part of the Folkestone Festival… there was a lady walking around with a giant Eagle Owl on her arm which was very disconcerting as its eyes looked just like the glass ones that teddys have…
We walked through a dilapidated fairground….
… wandered around the Lower Leas Coastal Park, climbed the zigzag steps and went along the Leas to The Metropole…
… where there was a private view in the art space, and we had ‘generous’ scones for tea at The Grand…
We then cycled over the Hythe to stay in a B&B for the night… [2016: edited to add; wish I could remember its name it looks gorgeous! ]
…only about a tablespoonful of rain fell that evening, but when it did it made a beautiful rainbow over the sea…
On Sunday we took the tiny train to Dungeness, went up the old lighthouse…..
…walked across the pebbles to Derek Jarman’s garden and marvelled at the impossible landscape…
It was a lovely weekend… :)
