I remember a while back reading about a woman sending out words from her book to be tattooed on willing participants… This is a whole lot less painful! The Poetry Society is celebrating it’s centeneray this year, and they are asking for volunteers to knit a letter each of a peom to be revealed at the end of the year…

The colours aren’t *really* that bright… almost, but not quite! I’d started doing a contrast hem using the Sirdar but it was too close a colour to the YT Maze so I frogged it and did again using some pure wool of unknown origin that matches the flecks in the Maze. Anyhow I did the hem using the same technique as Pamela, and I think it worked ok. Am hoping the rumpliness* of it is a because my needles aren’t quite long enough for it to be stretched out flat, and that they’ll disappear when blocked… but phew! it is heavy already! *quite possibly a made up word :)

So… this is who the blanket is for! Not yet born, but already showing off the blanket to good effect… :) This was such a fun project to work on – we all already want to make another one for each other (without the excuse of it being for a baby!). Plus it’s a great stash / try out new stitches project…

After some humming and haawing I’ve picked a yarn! I’m going with the YT Aran (in Maze) as I think it will do justice to the structured pattern of the Swing Jacket. It was also made affordable thanks to ebay, or it would be a seriously pricey garment! The runner up was (and I surprised myself, normally not a fan of man-made yarns) the Sirdar Country Style. It’s very soft, showed up the pattern the most clearly, didn’t feel at all acrylicky and boy – so cheap!! I just think it would knit up too floppy for this project which is a shame. Anyhow, going clockwise from the top is: (green) RYC Cotton Jeans, (turquoise) Rowan Yorkshire Tweed Aran, (dark grey) Cygnet Wool Rich Aran, (turquoise) Sirdar Country Style, (pink) Rowan Scottish Tweed DK. Yarny stats as follows: Suggested yarn: Quietitude (50% Wool, 50% Acrylic) 13 balls @ about £2.40 = £31 + shipping @ about £4.40 = £35 Needles: 4mm, Stitches: 22, Rows 34 Substitutes:RYC Cotton Jeans (100% Cotton) 17 balls @ £3.75 = £64Needles: 3.5mm, Stitches: 22, Rows: 32 Scottish Tweed DK (100% Wool) 12 balls £5.25 = £63 Needles: 3.5mm Stitches: 22 Rows: 36 Cygnet Wool Rich [...]
